“A Hat in Time Porn” is the nineteenth episode of The New Adventures of Friends, another of Fox’s primetime comedies. The episode is directed by Tim Burton and written by him, but it features many other stars as well. Matt Damon and Helena Bonham Carter star as David Kleinfeld, a pair of high school sweethearts who find themselves dating a fellow student with a taste for vases and hats; Matt Damon plays David Kleinfeld’s brother, while Helena Bonham Carter plays his friend, Rachel Berry. The late Carol Burnett also returns to her role as Mrs. Masters, David Kleinfeld’s mother.
The movie is about a couple who move into a new house together and end up taking a hate beating from their neighbors, who think they are abusing a child. As the days go by, they begin to change, both mentally and physically, so they figure they might as well use the a hat to disguise their alter egos for the rest of the time they spend there. Things don’t go so well, though, and their alter egos are exposed to a world of fashion trends, which are far from classy or tasteful.
“A Hat in Time Porn” is quite a dark comedy, but at the same time, it manages to be funny at times. It’s a shame that the producers didn’t get more creativity out of it, since this movie would have been an absolute classic. I give it a thumbs-up on a lot of counts, and it’s a shame that the acting in this film was not as good as some of the other Fox comedies we have seen lately. But nevertheless, it’s still a great watch and it’s worth your time.
